Here we are almost a month later. The buzz around the “Big Beautiful Bill” and what it means for gun owners is a bit more clear. We know more about the positives and negatives of the current situation. And as far as I can tell, people are pretty happy! There’s still a lot of work to be done, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

A recap of the long awaited 2025 Big Beautiful Bill.

This nickname “Big Beautiful Bill” slightly masks what the true name is. The American Freedom and Prosperity Act of 2025. The bill includes a large amount of changes. The one we are talking about today is the one we’ve all been chomping at the bit for.

Every indication was there. Gun owners may finally be unbound by the NFA status of tools. Including those we have or desire to have in our arsenal. This means a $200 savings per item registered. And the registration itself looked like it would be a thing of the past!

I even told people they would be able to buy a suppressor as easily as a 30 rd. magazine. And as far as short-barreled rifles and shotguns are concerned, it just makes more sense to have that length available. We aren’t just hunters out here anymore and long guns don’t do well in tight spaces.

The fact of the matter is.

Procedural regulations (The “Byrd Rule”) prevented all of this from actually happening. I shouldn’t say all. In the Big Beautiful Bill, the $200 tax stamp necessity is no more. But the process to apply for and receive an NFA item remains.
